What to expect
If you have never attended therapy or counselling, you might not be sure what to expect during sessions. That is okay. Below are some common questions you might find helpful.
General
-
During your initial session, we'll take some time to go over some essential paperwork together. This will include a form where we gather some basic information about you and a consent form that covers important details like confidentiality and fees, ensuring that you're well-informed about our sessions.
If you've been referred by a GP, we'll also review the specifics of your Mental Health Treatment Plan. After we've wrapped up with the paperwork, we'll typically spend the remainder of the session diving into the issues that led you to seek therapy and discussing the goals and hopes you have for your therapy journey. It's a collaborative process, and I'm here to support you every step of the way.
-
In each session, our aim is to cultivate a deeper understanding of why you're feeling the way you do and to provide you with strategies to start feeling better. Through this process, you'll gain insights into your life and yourself, ultimately empowering you to have greater control over your emotions and reactions, especially in challenging situations. It's all about helping you on your journey to self-discovery and emotional well-being.
-
You are welcome to bring any notes you have made about your situation. Many clients like to take notes during sessions, so you are encouraged to bring something to write down your thoughts. If you have any reports which might help explain what has been happening, You are welcome to bring those along for review and discussion.
